PAST PRESIDENTS OF NAEAP
Professor B.O. Ukeje, FNAEAP: (deceased): 1977-1986
Professor Ukeje of blessed memory was an international scholar well known for his expertise in the field of educational administration. He was the first President of NAEAP, which was then known as the National Association for Educational Administration and Planning. He was President from 1977 to 1986. During his tenure, in 1978, four members of the Association participated in the International Inter-visitation Programme (IIP) of the then Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration (CCEA) now Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management (CCEAM) in Montreal, Canada. In 1982, he led NAEAP to successfully host the IIP Conference in Owerri, Imo State, making Nigeria the first Third World Country to host the international conference. After his tenure, the Federal Government of Nigeria appointed Professor Ukeje as the Director of the Mathematical Centre, Abuja. He was President Nigerian Academy of Education from 1991 to 1996. For his distinguished service to the development educational administration in Nigeria and service to the Association he was honoured with the award of Fellowship of NAEAP in the year 2002.
Emeritus Professor Nicholas A. Nwagwu, FNAEAP: 1986-1990
Emeritus Professor Nwagwu was the second President of the National Association of Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP) from 1986 – 1990. He is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Benin. He was President Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE) from 2004 to 2008 and member Board of Trustees of NAE from 2016-2018. Emeritus Professor Nwagwu is the Chairman of the NAEAP Board of Trustees (BOT) and a Fellow of the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration (CCEA),In recognition of his services to the association, he was invested with the Fellowship of NAEAP
Professor Joseph Amiokhe Aghenta, FNAEAP (deceased): 1990-1994
Professor Joseph Aghenta was recognized as a leading scholar in the area of educational planning in Nigeria. He was the third President of NAEAP, from 1990-1999 . In recognition of his distinguished services to the Association he was honoured with the award of Fellowing of NAEAP. He was a member of Board of Trustees NAEAP.
Professor S.O. Igwe, FNAEAP: 1994-2002
Professor Igwe assumed leadership, as the President of NAEAP in 1994. He became a Fellow of NAEAP in 2002 and a member of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Professor Igwe was a founding Dean of the Faculty of Education, Abia State Univeristy, Uturu in Abia State, Nigeria. He later became the Vice Chancellor in 1995 and retired in 1999 after his tenure. He went into active politics became the Pro-chancellor of Nmadi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria and later, the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukku. At the end of this appointment, he became more actively involved in the politics of his state, Abia State and Nigeria, under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Professor E.O. Fagbamiye, FNAEAP, FCCEAM: 2002-2006
Professor Fagbamiye was a lecturer in the Department of Educational Administration and Planning, University of Lagos, Akoka. He was a foundation member of the Nigerian Association for Educational Administration and Planning (NAEAP) in 1977 and the National Coordinator for the International Inter-visitation Programmes (IIP) which Nigeria hosted in 1982 as Administration (CCEA), now Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management (CCEAM). He served as an interim President of NAEAP from the year 2002 to 2006 during which he resuscitated the association and was part of its growth. He was honored with the award of Fellowship of NAEAP in 2011 and was a member of the NAEAP’s Board of Trustees (BOT). For his service to the growth and development of NAEAP and affiliation with the CCEAM. He was conferred the award of the CCEAM Fellowship in November 2013, in Cyprus. Professor Fagbamiye retired from the University of Lagos and served as an Educational Consultant until his death.
Professor Godwin Owoicho AKPA: 2006-2010
Godwin Akpa is a Professor of Educational Planning & Administration at the University of Jos where he has held various leadership positions. He was Head of Department, Educational Administration and Planning, Director of Academic Planning, Member of the 10th Governing Council of the University and Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) University of Jos branch. Also, he served the Federal Government of Nigeria as a member of the Governing Board of Universal Basic Education Commission, and member of the Book Development Committee of TETFund. He was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Jubilee University (now Kwararafa University), Wukari, Taraba State in 2007 and served in that capacity until 2012. It was during his tenure as Vice Chancellor that the university’s name was change to Kwararafa University. Prof Akpa was elected National President of NAEAP in 2006 and was at the helm of affairs of the organization for four years during which term he initiated he the change of name of the association from National Association of Educational Administration and Planning to the present name Nigerian Association of Educational Administration and Planning to reflect its membership spread across the entire country. The approvals of the Honourable Ministers of Education and Information respectively was obtained before the organization was officially registered with its present name by the Corporate Affairs Commission. He an executive member of the Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE) and member Board of Trustees of NAEAP and member, Curriculum Organisation of Nigeria (MCON). Prof Akpa is an avid scholar with local and international publications to his credit, books, articles in learned Journals and technical reports. He is a recipient of Australian Council for Educational Leaders’ Certificate of Professional Learning. For his leadership qualities and contributions to scholarship and educational development, he was conferred with the Fellowship of the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management (CCEAM) in 2010, in Sydney, Australia. Again, in 2015, he was bestowed with the Fellow, Nigerian Association for Educational Administration & Planning (NAEAP).
Professor Grace Uche Emetarom: 2010-2014
Professor Uche Emetarom is a lecturer in the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education, Abia State University, Uturu. She succeeded Professor Godwin Owicho Akpa as National President of NAEAP in 2010 and served until 2014. She was elected an Executive of the CCEAM during her tenure in office.
Professor Dave Olufemi Durosaro: 2014- 2018
He holds B.Ed. Planning and Administration (Ilorin), M.Ed. Educational Management and Ph.D Educational Management (Ibadan). He is a Professor of Educational Management at the University of Ilorin and a former Dean of Education at the University of Ilorin. He was a pass Chairman, Committee of Dean of Education in Nigerian Universities. External Examiner to several Universities both abroad and in Nigeria. He was also a Consultant to the Federal Ministry of Education for all Action Planning in the Southwest Zone. He was a Visiting Professor and Dean of Education. Al-Hikman University, Ilorin, Nigeria. He had published extensively in his field of Educational Management. He is happily married with children.
